Your wedding day is going to go by faster than you think.

There will be so many little moments, big emotions, happy tears, hugs, laughter, and probably a few things that don’t go exactly according to plan. And that’s okay!

As your wedding photographers, our job isn’t just to take beautiful photos. We’re there to help you feel comfortable, keep things moving when needed, and most importantly, help you enjoy your day.

Here are 10 things we wish every couple knew before their wedding day.

1. Your wedding photographer is here for YOU

This might be the most important thing on the list.

Your photographers aren’t just there to check off a shot list. We’re there to serve you, help you feel confident in front of the camera, and capture the moments that make your wedding day yours.

If you’re nervous about being photographed, don’t worry. If you’ve never had professional photos taken together before, that’s okay. We’ll guide you through it.

And if something unexpected happens? Take a breath. We’ll figure it out with you.

Our goal is for you to look back at your wedding photos and remember not only how beautiful everything looked, but how you felt.

2. You don’t have to know how to pose

One of the most common things couples tell us is, “We’re awkward in front of the camera.”

Good news: you don’t have to know what to do!

That’s part of our job.

We’ll give you direction when you need it, but we also want to leave room for the natural moments that happen between the poses. A little movement, a laugh, a forehead touch, holding hands, walking together—those are often the moments that feel the most like you.

You don’t have to perform for the camera. Just be together, and we’ll take care of the rest.

3. Give yourself more time than you think you need

Wedding days have a way of moving quickly.

Hair and makeup can take a little longer. Someone can’t find a shoe. A family member is running late. Your dress needs one more adjustment.

Building a little extra breathing room into your timeline can make a huge difference.

We’d much rather have a few extra minutes than have you feeling rushed from one part of your day to the next.

And those extra minutes can turn into some of our favorite photographs.

4. If you want more time for portraits after the ceremony, consider a first look

If having more time together for portraits is important to you, a first look can be a wonderful option.

By seeing each other before the ceremony, we can get a large portion of your portraits done beforehand. This can include your couple portraits and, depending on your timeline and family, even wedding party and family photos.

That means after your ceremony, you may have much more freedom to enjoy your cocktail hour, greet your guests, grab a drink, or simply take a few quiet moments together as newlyweds.

And if you love the idea of a traditional aisle reveal, you absolutely can still have that special moment without doing a first look. There’s no right or wrong choice, it’s about what feels most like you.

5. Your details deserve a little preparation

Your invitation suite, rings, shoes, jewelry, perfume, vow books, heirlooms, and other meaningful details can tell a beautiful part of your wedding day story.

Having these items gathered together and ready when we arrive makes it much easier for us to photograph them without taking time away from you.

If there are sentimental details you want photographed, bring them along!

Grandma’s ring. A handwritten note. A family heirloom. A special perfume. Your something blue.

Those little pieces of your story are worth remembering, too.

6. Your family photo list can save SO much time

Family portraits are important, but they can also be one of the more hectic parts of a wedding day.

The best way to keep things moving is to create a list ahead of time.

Think about the combinations that are most important to you and keep the list focused on the people you absolutely want photographed together.

We’ll help organize and guide everyone through the process, but having a plan means we can spend less time calling names and more time getting you back to the celebration.

7. Don’t forget about the in-between moments

Some of the photographs you treasure most may not be the ones you planned.

It might be your dad seeing you for the first time.

Your best friend fixing your veil.

Your grandparents smiling during the ceremony.

The way your new spouse looks at you when you aren’t paying attention.

Your friends laughing together during cocktail hour.

These moments happen quickly, which is why we love being there to document them as they unfold.

You don’t have to know they’re happening for them to matter.

8. We want you to actually enjoy your wedding day

This one is huge.

We never want you to feel like your entire wedding day is one long photography session.

Yes, we’ll set aside time for portraits. Yes, we’ll guide you through family photos and the important formal moments.

But we also want you to live your day.

We love building little pockets of breathing room into our timelines so our couples have time to simply be together.

A few minutes after the ceremony to hold hands and take it all in.

A quiet moment during portraits to laugh together.

A chance to step away from the crowd and realize, “We’re married!”

You’ve spent so much time planning this day. We want you to experience it—not just pose for it.

9. Trust your photographers

You hired us because you love our work and trust us to tell your story.

So when we suggest stepping into a certain light, moving somewhere a little quieter, taking a few extra minutes for sunset portraits, or pulling you away for a quick moment together, trust us.

We’re watching the light, the timeline, the surroundings, and all the little opportunities happening throughout the day.

Sometimes the best photograph comes from something that wasn’t originally on the plan.

And that’s okay.

10. Your wedding day doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful

Something will probably go wrong.

The weather might change. A boutonniere might fall off. Your timeline might run behind. Someone might forget something.

But years from now, you probably won’t remember those little imperfections.

You’ll remember who was there.

You’ll remember the way you felt walking down the aisle.

You’ll remember laughing with your favorite people.

You’ll remember the moment you became husband and wife.

And that’s what we want to photograph.

At the end of the day, we’re here to help you enjoy it

Your wedding photography should feel like more than checking “photos” off your wedding-day to-do list.

We want to be a calming presence, a helping hand, and someone you can trust throughout the day.

We’ll guide you when you need direction, step back when you need space, and always keep an eye out for the little moments that make your story yours.

Because when you look back at your wedding photos, we want you to see more than beautiful images.

We want you to remember your people, your joy, and the feeling of becoming newlyweds.

And most importantly, we want you to remember that you were fully there to enjoy it.
